Morales Portrait

Rita has a great tradition of remembering her deceased son every year with a gift to her living daughter. Rita asked me to paint a picture of her angel son (who passed away nearly a decade ago) with her two granddaughters (children of her daughter). I included elements that were special reminders of him; the Dos Cabezas Mountains, his cowboy hat and clothes, and the kindness in his face.

When making a portrait from photos, I try and do several sketches before selecting a final. Here’s a sample of sketches before selecting the final layout.
